Treaty 1 Territory, Homeland of the Red River Métis, Winnipeg, Manitoba –
At a capacity campaign launch event at Torque Brewing Co., Winnipeg mayoral candidate Rick Shone launched his campaign with a focus on six key priorities for the City of Winnipeg. Shone, who is the owner of local retailer Wilderness Supply, said he would work tirelessly to make Winnipeg a city where people want to live and visit.
“We need to invest in our economy and grow opportunities for education and employment,” said Shone. “Winnipeg has thousands of local home-grown businesses employing hundreds of thousands of Winnipeggers. We need to do everything we can to foster an environment where anyone who dreams of being an entrepreneur can open a business here.”
Shone said he would also focus on making Winnipeg a more caring city by investing in people and programs that help those in need. “I love this city,” said Shone. “I believe in its potential. As mayor, I will work hard every day to make Winnipeg a world-class city that we can all be proud to call home.”
Shone also outlined key priorities of his campaign including fiscal responsibility, building an attractive city that brings people in, growing and supporting our local businesses, a livable city, investing in infrastructure for the long term, and a safe city for all.
Shone has been a resident of Winnipeg for over 30 years and has been active in the community, volunteering with several organizations including the United Way. As an active member of Winnipeg’s business community and a strong advocate for growing the city’s economy, Rick has been involved in several downtown business improvement districts.
